Natascha Waeyen
Natascha Waeyen (NL, Roermond, 1971) works with iron wire. With this common material she creates meaning. The thread conveys her message. It helps her to comprehend light and space in often poetic constructions. In addition to her artistic works we have also come to know Waeyen as an artist who stands up for other artists and initiates collaboration between and for artists and the public.
Her Pop-up museum, exhibited at PontArte from the 6 – 20 of September 2021 is a good example of this, where you are all invited to participate.
Waeyen about the Pop up museum:
I like to make connections and let people participate in my work. For example with a new transparent and accessible ‘drawing’, which looks like a spatially fine-meshed interplay of lines.
This ‘drawing’ was made during the pandemic, a period when museums, galleries and other cultural institutions were often closed. I made my own personal pop-up museum, in which small removable drawings of 13cm3 are presented. I can put it anywhere and you can visit my little museum. We can keep our distance or touch each other, (if desired!). Because of the transparency, the inner and outer worlds are unseparated and we can still see, hear, smell each other. This way we can feel safe without the terrible feeling of isolation, even if corona controls our lives. This spatial drawing is figuratively made of us, of you (the visitor) and of me (the maker).
Small works can be adopted. In that case, the new owner takes his share with him and personally changes ‘the drawing’ and becomes co-owner of the installation, which thus spreads in particles throughout the country and perhaps across the borders. In this case, the work also literally becomes ours.
