Ronald van den Boogaard
Ronald van den Boogaard | a documentary by Sebastien Scholten and Tom Antonisse
In the series Private Views, which we started in response to the restrictive measures around Covid-19, we present on Wednesday 23 September, Thursday 24 September and Friday 25 September the documentary made by Sebastien Scholten (2020) and Tom Antonisse (1998) about Ronald van den Boogaard.
For more than 2 years Sebastien and Tom followed Ronald van den Boogaard in Maastricht. A beautiful “time frame” of an artist who evokes fascination with his appearance and work.
The documentary will be shown in PontArte from Wednesday 23 to Saturday 26 September, at the same time as the presentation of “Time comes across: a block around” The project where van den Boogaard worked in recent months.
A number of events with the artist are planned, with the documentary being shown and for which you must register. If you want to come, please register via the pontarte website: www.pontarte.com or call +31(0) 6-37403499. Up to 8 people can see the documentary in the gallery at the same time.
Van den Boogaard’s work is part of the TAPAS 2019 exhibition at PontArte with his series: Fruits of Wrath.
A series of articles by a blogger who infiltrated in military sales fairs sparked this work. She put on the cocktail dress and mingled between the arms sales people. What emerged from these articles is that arms sales is about appeal, beauty and even sexiness.
When looking up the online brochures on hand grenades, I found that these plastic shells, lined with metal pellets will provide an X amount of penetration within a given distance. They come in boxes of 12 and there are discounts for larger quantities, as is the case when buying fruit at the market.
Even at a discount it is not sexy nor appealing. It is death in disguise. The X amount of penetration means the closer you are to the damn thing the better your chances of dying from it. This is my anger in disguise.Ronald van den Boogaard, 2019
