BACK LIGHT is a new solo exhibition by the Spanish artist Josep María Codina in the Netherlands. Codina is an artist who has developed his own style in which a combination of abstract areas of color and pencil creates images that are very subtle.

The exhibition can be seen from 20 April to 15 May 2019 at PontArte in Kapoenstraat 29 in Maastricht.

The opening will take place on Saturday April 20 at 4 p.m. in the gallery. Josep Maria Codina will be present at the opening and explain his work on request.

BACK LIGHT
The work of the Spanish artist Josep María Codina creates a world of its own. The layering of the work and the drawing provides quests for those who look at it. According to Codina, who created magically realistic work at the start of his career, his current work is an enlargement of reality. His work is not about abstract but a close up of the skin.
In this exhibition work from 2013 can be seen, work on rice paper and canvas. The work on paper in particular is very delicate. The colors and drawing, in combination with the paper, create parchment-like sheets in which the play of lines give a wonderful depth to the very subtle works.

Josep Maria Codina is a renowned artist with work in museums and important collections. His work is collected all over the world.
His work is currently on display in an exhibition at the Instituto Cervantes in New York, USA and in the museum of Avila, Spain.
