PRAT CODINA ESTEVE is the title of the duo exhibition by Rosa CODINA ESTEVE and Marc PRAT CODINA, mother and son. We are very happy that after a long collaboration with Marc Prat we now have the opportunity to exhibit the work of his mother, Rosa Codina Esteve together with that of Marc. Rosa Codina Esteve is an internationally renowned artist who has a long career as a teacher and visual artist and who taught her son, a ‘self-taught’ how to paint.

Opening reception: Saturday 4 March, 17:00 – 19:00 in the presence of the artists

Opening speech: 18.00 hrs.

The exhibition can be visited from 4 March to 10 April. Opening hours: Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment.

DNA: PRAT CODINA-ESTEVE is an exhibition in which mother and son have selected from each other’s work to exhibit this together. From this selection you can immediately see where the basis of Marc’s work comes from. The Big diptychs and triptychs, working in series and the use of colour of Rosa is clearly reflected in Marc’s work. But where one works very controlled, the other is expressive. Where Rosa has an almost abstract representation of objects, the work of Marc is clearly figurative. Still, the depth effect of both is impressive as is the absence or the very controlled use of color.

About the artists:

Rosa Codina-Esteve; (Mataró, 1948)

Rosa Codina-Esteve has a longcareer as an image artist.  She was educated at various art institutions in Barcelona and New York and obtained her PhD in 1988. Since 1985 she has been an art teacher at the University of Barcelona and has taught at the Chelsea School of Art in London and at the High School of Berlin. In addition, she has taught courses all over the world.

Her work is based on enlargements of everyday objects. From bowls and vases to screws displayed in a way where the mundane disappears and the shape becomes the underwork of the work. The very restrained use of color means that the works become even more mistic.

Rosa Codina-Esteve’s work  is included in many public and private collections. An extensive list of exhibitions and public collections is included in the website.

Marc Prat Codina: (Mataró, 1971)

Marc Prat is a painter and engraver. He defines his painting as figurative-abstract, in which there is a direct and constant reference to architecture and symbolism.

He started painting when he was 24 years old and had his first public exhibition in 2001, six years later. In addition to being an artist, he is a musician, plays double bass and bass guitar, and has also worked as a photographer, journalist and professor throughout his career. An important artistic influence in his life is the painting of his mother, Rosa Codina-Esteve.  Former professor of fine arts at the University of Barcelona, she taught him the basics of art. His artistic universe is derived from his mother’s, and the two evolve in parallel.

The constant source of inspiration for Marc is the landscapes that are projected into his mind, physical or imaginary, and he always tries to convey them in his paintings.
